Artist Statement
For the Works in Threshold

My work immerses viewers in layered landscapes inhabited by mythological, divine, and folkloric beings. Drawing upon cultural memory, I explore how stories from the past continue to shape contemporary understandings of place and identity. Through painting and collage, I bring together elements of history, legend, and the natural world, creating spaces where past and present converge.

The imagery in my work grows from personal experiences in nature, informed by years of travel throughout Texas, Colorado, Hawaii, Scotland, Greece, and beyond. Drawing from photographs, historical imagery, and material culture, I begin with sketches shaped by observation, memory, research, and imagination. These sources become the foundation for landscapes that blend the familiar and the fantastical.

I reinterpret historical, mythological, and symbolic imagery within contemporary landscapes, inserting archetypal figures into specific places. Through this process, I investigate how stories, beliefs, and cultural artifacts carry meaning across generations. My work reflects a fascination with the ways history remains embedded in landscapes and how myths, symbols, and objects continue to shape our understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
